Rossini Role Debut

Rossini Role Debut new york, we love new york

Nico Darmanin makes his role debut as Ory in Rossini’s comic opera LE COMTE ORY for Dorset Opera Festival.  Containing some of Rossini’s most colourful orchestral writing the opera uses some music from the earlier IL VIAGGIO A REIMS but is based on a farcical story about disguise and deceit all in the aim of love. The Wicked Adventures of Count Ory – a rollicking comedy – tells the story of our hero’s pathetic attempts to gain the attention of the gorgeous Adele. She and her companions have sent their menfolk off to war when lad-about-town Ory arrives masquerading as a mystic who the ladies are eager to consult. When this ruse fails, Ory and his followers resort to seeking refuge from an approaching storm…dressed as nuns! Naturally, the wine flows and defrocking is inevitable…

Conducted by José Miguel Esandi and directed by David Phipps-Davis.  The cast also includes Steven Page (Gouverneur), Heather Lowe (Isolier) and Jennifer France (Adèle).
